For women, excessive hair on the face and body can be a cause for alarm. As well as creating a potential source of embarrassment, excessive hair also indicates some underlying hormonal issues are at play, which can be worrying, to say the least.

The name for excessive hair is hirsutism, and if it’s something you’re experiencing then chances are you’ll want to get to the bottom of it. Here we will take a look at the condition, what causes it and how you can overcome excessive hair.

Cause Of Hirsutism

As touched on above, hirsutism can be attributed to various factors, but the most common of them is hormonal imbalances.

Elevated levels of androgens, the ones we consider to be “male” hormones, can stimulate the growth of hair which can be coarse and dark, unlike the small hairs everyone has on their body, known as vellus hair or peach fuzz.

So what causes these elevated levels of androgens? Well, perhaps the primary culprit is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common endocrine disorder, which disrupts the normal hormonal balance.

Additionally, some women are born with heightened testosterone levels, which can be another contributing factor, while certain medications, such as steroids or hormonal contraceptives, can also lead to increased facial hair.

In many cases, genetics play a role, as women with a family history of hirsutism are more likely to develop the condition.

If you’re experiencing excessive hair growth then it’s important to speak to your doctor to identify the cause. They can then carry out some tests that should help determine the cause.

How To Overcome Hirsutism

While excessive hair in and of itself is usually benign, you may want to remove any it to give your skin a clear and smooth appearance.

Although most men will just shave off any unwanted facial hair, for women this isn’t always the most appealing solution. For starters, no woman wants stubble on their cheeks or above her lip, and shaving can also cause a rash which is never ideal!

This is where laser hair removal can provide the answer as it’s a quick, easy and relatively painless solution for individuals who have unwanted excessive facial hair.

Facial air can be a source of embarrassment and impact a person’s self-esteem. But our advanced treatment provides a safe and effective way to permanently reduce or eliminate unwanted facial hair.

By precisely targeting hair follicles with high-power laser energy, the procedure hinders future hair growth, providing individuals with a sense of confidence by removing what can become a source of anxiety for some.

The lasers we use in these procedures are extremely powerful, which is why you’ll want to put your faith in a company you can trust.

Thankfully, we have over 20 years of experience in laser treatments so you’ll be in safe hands. All of our technicians have an NVQ Level 4 in laser hair removal and laser light treatments and we‘re proud to be an approved supplier to the NHS for laser referrals.
