If you’ve ever wondered how some women manage to look glowing and rested despite a busy lifestyle, it might be because they’ve perfected the art of the ‘tweakment.’ These are subtle skin treatments that are designed to make you look like a refreshed version of yourself, rather than unsettlingly different.
Here’s your guide to tweakments—minimally invasive and quick procedures with little downtime that can boost your confidence this summer.
Injectables
Dermal fillers
At our Hove clinic, we offer dermal fillers. These are injections of filler (often containing hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the body and helps to retain moisture) that are used to add subtle volume.
For example, they can return a gentle youthful roundness to sunken cheeks and help define facial contours; soften under-eye hollows and facial folds; and add plumpness or symmetry to thin lips. When carried out by an experienced aesthetician, no one will be able to tell, but you will get lots of compliments about how well you look.
Anti-wrinkle injections
Anti-wrinkle injections such as Botox work by relaxing the facial muscles that cause dynamic creases—in other words, those lines that appear when you laugh, frown or smile. As we age, these lines can set in permanently and get deeper. Botox injections soften them out temporarily (usually for three to four months), so you’ll look smoother and more chilled out.
Skin boosters & Profhilo
If your skin is showing signs of ageing or sun damage, such as dryness, loss of elasticity, or a crepey texture, then these treatments can restore that youthful dewy glow. The Profhilo skin booster injects hyaluronic acid beneath the skin’s surface to hydrate from the inside. It can be used to revive the skin around the face, neck, décolletage or hands.
Laser-based treatments
Laser facials
Laser facials use gentle laser light energy to target early signs of ageing, reduce redness, and improve skin tone. It’s a fast and non-invasive treatment that is ideal if you want a brighter and clearer looking complexion.
IPL photorejuvenation
Intense pulsed light (IPL), often referred to as a photofacial, uses pulses of light to trigger the skin’s natural healing processes. It’s effective for improving skin issues such as redness, hyperpigmentation, freckles and rosacea.
This treatment works best when you won’t have active sun exposure for at least one month before and one month afterwards, so if you got a holiday booked you might want to put it on hold for now.
What results can you expect?
Some tweakments work well after just one session, whereas others may need a course of two to six sessions, paced a few weeks apart, to take full effect. You won’t look obviously different afterwards, but you look refreshed and are sure to get more compliments! You can also build up the effects gradually, so there’s no need to leap out of your comfort zone.
A good clinic will always carry out a consultation and patch test beforehand, so you’ll be confident that the treatment is safe and suitable for you.
