Thread Vein Removal

Thread veins, also known as spider veins, are small veins commonly found on your face and legs. We can help you feel confident in your skin again with our safe and effective thread vein removal treatments.

Thread Vein Removal

Thread veins are tiny, prominent veins just below the skin surface. They are a cosmetic issue rather than a medical concern, leaving many individuals feeling self conscious about their appearance. They’re usually red in colour and resemble spider webs or tree branches. If this is something that bothers you and none of your home remedies seem to be working, there’s plenty we can do at our thread vein removal clinic to help reduce unwanted facial and leg thread veins.

Thread Vein Removal (Face): During a laser vein removal treatment, short pulses of light quickly heat up the veins, causing them to collapse in on themselves. This all sounds very dramatic, but we can assure you that the process is safe, quick, and effective – plus you get to lie back and wear a snazzy pair of goggles whilst we work our magic.

Sclerotherapy (Body):

We would need to carry out a free patch test and consultation at least 7 days before we can carry out any laser treatments. This is to ensure that you do not have any adverse reactions to the treatment and for our trained aestheticians to decide on the best protocol for your particular skin needs.

What Causes Thread Veins?
Thread veins are largely genetic but there are some factors where you’re more likely to develop them. Facial thread veins can be caused by:

  • Overexposure to the sun
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Drastic changes in the weather
  • Sudden changes in pressure (severe sneezing or vomiting)
  • Hormonal changes such as those during pregnancy
  • Rosacea

On the other hand, leg thread veins can be caused by:

  • Age. As we grow older, our valves become weaker and therefore more susceptible to leg thread veins.
  • Being overweight as extra pressure is placed on the legs.
  • The hormonal changes, increased blood moving through the body, and extra weight placed on the legs during pregnancy.
  • Estrogen can weaken vein valves, commonly seen in those who take birth control pills or are going through menopause.

You may also experience tightness, tingling and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. These effects will diminish greatly a few hours following treatment and after 3 days most visible erythema will be absolved.

After the treatment, do not:

  • Wash treatment area for 12 hours
  • Expose the skin to direct sunlight for 24 hours with strict recommendations to cover treated area
  • Apply make up for 24 hours
  • Use foundations or powers for 48 hours
  • Use saunas, swimming pools and public bathing, tanning salons for 5 days

Sclerotherapy – Body Thread Vein Removal

  • Proper bandaging following sclerotherapy is critical for the success of the procedure. Leave the cotton balls, compression bandages, and compression stockings in place for 24 hours. After 24 hours, remove the compression tape and cotton balls. You may find it easier to remove the compression tape after soaking in a warm bath or shower. Put the compression stockings back on after the bandages are removed.
  • Compression stockings should be worn at all times until bedtime for 14 days. It is not necessary to sleep with your stockings on. Remove them prior to bathing.
  • Bruising and discoloration are common after sclerotherapy. These issues will resolve over a number of weeks.
  • It is very important to avoid sun exposure to the treatment areas after sclerotherapy. Sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) in treated areas. Wear protective clothing and a broad-spectrum sun block for at least 1 month after the treatment.
  • Avoid excessively hot baths, showers for 24 hours
  • No vigorous activity for 24 hours
  • If swelling occurs, elevate and apply ice
  • Pain after sclerotherapy is usually minimal and goes away after 1-2 days.
