Treatment
Lumenis, the inventor of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) has recently released the 6th generation of their Multi-Application IPL platform called the M22 Stellar. It can treat a wide range of skin conditions offering everything you need in one platform. This is thanks to its industry-leading technology. It has set a new standard for skin rejuvenation. Results achievable have been clinically proven.
Intense pulsed light (IPL), often referred to as a photofacial, treats a variety of skin concerns, including excess pigmentation — like age spots, sunspots, freckles, and melasma—and redness from broken capillaries and rosacea. Lumenis M22 uses optimal pulse technology to further reduce treatment tenderness while maximizing results. The light pulses penetrate the skin and trigger your natural healing process for smoother, healthier, more refreshed looking skin. IPL uses controlled light in specific wavelengths to target and alleviate the inflammation, redness, visible small blood vessels and uneven skin tone. IPL is also great for general rejuvenation of the skin as it helps to increase collagen production.
We would need to carry out a patch test and consultation at least 48 hours before we can carry out any laser treatments. This is to ensure that you do not have any adverse reactions to the treatment and for our trained aestheticians to decide on the best protocol for your particular skin needs.
What does IPL stand for?
IPL stands for “Intense Pulsed Light” because it uses an intense short pulse of light to treat various conditions.
How does IPL work?
A flash of light is used to heat the target condition, causing it to break down, and be absorbed by the body.
What does IPL feel like?
Some people liken an IPL shot to a small elastic band flicking onto the skin, followed by a warm sensation. We will always carry out a full consultation and patch test before a course of IPL treatment is commenced. One reason for doing a patch test is to ensure the settings are comfortable for you. But the sensation will vary from person to person.
How many treatments do I need?
On average 3-4 treatments that are 4-6 weeks apart, results vary with some having great results after one or two sessions and others requiring more.
Why do I need a consultation and patch test?
A consultation is a question and answer session where we ascertain whether you are suitable for treatment. If you are suitable, a patch test is where we carry out a test treatment on a small patch of the treatment area to see how you respond. If both are successful, then we can go ahead with a full treatment.

What is the down time?
There is technically no downtime required after a IPL treatment. After your treatment, you may appear slightly red, similar to a sunburn. Any hyper-pigmentation that you currently have, will begin to darken. You can return to your normal activities the next day.
It’s important you continue to show your skin some love following your treatment at Grand Aesthetics to get the best results. You’ll be prescribed a bespoke course of treatments and home care products to take with you, all of which will be explained in detail. Make sure you’re following the recommended routine between each of your appointments at our clinic to enhance the effects of your aesthetic treatments.
You may have a mild sunburn (burning) sensation following the treatment that is usually gone within a few hours. Skin redness is normal and may last a few days. There may be a slight amount of swelling.
