Treatment
The DermaPen and microneedling treatment is a minimally invasive procedure that encourages your skin to make more collagen. It’s a type of collagen induction therapy where tiny pinpricks are made under the skin with a special pen-like tool, allowing the skin to respond by making new collagen-rich tissue.
As with all skin care treatments the best results are achieved over time. Therefore we would always suggest a course of treatments to achieve long lasting results. We usually recommend a course of 4 – 6 DermaPen treatments every 3-4 weeks, alongside correct home care products.
Not sure if the DermaPen skin treatment is right for you? why not book in for a skin consultation in clinic and let us help you decide. If we feel DermaPen is the best option for getting you the results you want, we’ll get you booked in for your course of treatments as soon as possible.
How does DermaPen work?
Using multiple needles to vertically penetrate the surface layers of skin, this allows the body to begin the wound-healing process which breaks up older collagen chains to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin within the skin.
What Does DermaPen Do?
It sounds a little strange to describe the DermaPen as something that causes slight injury to the skin, but these tiny, barely noticeable pinpricks give your skin no choice but to fight back and recover with a shield of collagen-rich tissue. This new, stronger tissue is more even in tone and texture and helps to keep the skin firmer too.
What Is DermaPen Good For?
The treatment is often used on your face to target:
How is DermaPen® Micro Needling different from other techniques?
The most common technique uses a roller with needles spread across the cylindrical treatment applicator. This type of device is rolled across the treatment area. The nature of the rolling movement creates unnecessary epidermal damage as the needles pull the tissue as they leave the skin.
In Contrast the Dermapen applicator is completely vertical, minimizing unnecessary injury to the treatment area. The carefully controlled, disposable needle applicator only moves in an up-and-down motion, meaning less recovery time and a more comfortable experience for clients.
What does a Dermapen® treatment feel like?
Depending on the depth of treatment, numbing creams can be used to increase patient comfort for deeper treatments. Some clients will only feel a tickling sensation, while those undergoing deeper treatment may feel a pin prick sensation
How many Dermapen® treatments will I need?
Each person’s skin conditions are different and require different levels of treatment. Some clients can see improvement after one treatment, however a minimum of three to six treatments is recommended for best results. Treatments are usually spaced 1 month apart to see visible improvements, as the body requires time to produce new collagen and elastin. Results will continue to improve for a few months as the collagen remodels.
What is the downtime?
Whether you choose microneedling for acne scars or other skin issues, you will notice that the skin appears red like a sunburn following your session. For this reason, we do not recommend planning any significant events right after your appointment. Downtime varies from person to person, but generally, you may experience mild redness and mild swelling for about 24 – 72 hours after your microneedling treatment. After this time the skin is usually completely back to normal.
It’s important you continue to show your skin some love following your treatment at Grand Aesthetics to get the best results. You’ll be prescribed a bespoke course of treatments and home care products to take with you, all of which will be explained in detail. Make sure you’re following the recommended routine between each of your appointments at our clinic to enhance the effects of your aesthetic treatments.
