Now we are in 2023, you may be a few weeks into a regime of diet and fitness. The first aim may be to burn off the excesses of the festive season, but if you already had some areas of excess fat or other concerns, your plans for this year should extend well beyond that.

When it comes to fat, the issue for so many ladies is that, however well they eat and however much they exercise, there are some areas that seem to remain. For example, a build-up of belly fat in women can be caused by factors like genetics and post-partum hormonal changes, even if you are eating well.

However, that is not the only issue you might face. For many women, lots of work on health and fitness can be spoiled by little awkward pockets of fat remaining. These lumpy areas can be highly frustrating as they stand out on a figure that would otherwise be just as you want it.

This is where the use of fat dissolving injections in Brighton can make that crucial difference. The substance we use for this is Aqualyx.

Aqualyx can be used on areas all over the body, from your hips to your chin. Also known as Motolese’s solution after the professor that introduced the drug to the world, it is a kind of deoxycholate acid that works by literally dissolving fat.

The science bit goes like this: deoxycholate acid works like bile and breaks down fat by disrupting the membranes of fat cells and then destroying the cell. Just as bile helps your body do this with the fat in food you have consumed, so this can do it in your body where the tissue has been injected, destroying the fat cells there.

Getting treatment will be a fairly standard procedure. As ever, you will see one of our specialists who can establish if it is the right treatment for you. If it is, then a typical operation will begin with the area being cleaned before the injections take place. After a local anaesthetic to numb the area, the Aqualux will be injected and an ultrasound will be used to ensure it is spreading evenly.

The treatment takes between an hour and 90 minutes and you will need multiple sessions for it to have a significant effect. There will be some short-term swelling and there may be some redness, but the symptoms should be mild.

Of course, there are circumstances when you should not use such treatment, like if you are breastfeeding. But if you have only recently had a baby, it is worth bearing in mind that your body shape will take a lot of time to return to ‘normal’ anyway, and you should be kind to yourself about this as you will have plenty else on your hands at such a time!

The use of fat-dissolving injections is not a stand-alone treatment; it should be used to complement diet and exercise, rather than replacing it. But by removing the bits of fat all your other efforts cannot shift, it can help complete the job of getting you the look you are seeking.

We'd love to hear from you
