Summer beauty might be all about glowing skin, but sometimes facials and serums aren’t quite enough to give you that fresh and rested appearance. That’s why we offer Botox at our Hove clinic. Here’s a look at how anti-wrinkle injections can keep you looking subtly refreshed and smooth all summer long.
Combatting fine lines
In the summer, more intense UV light can damage the skin and make it easier for fine lines to form around the eyes, forehead and mouth. You might notice the effect more as you squint in the sun: those crow’s feet and frown lines don’t fade as they used to, but seem to get deeper every day.
Botox injections work by temporarily blocking the nerve impulses to relax the muscle that is causing the facial crease, so the lines will be softened out. This instantly makes your skin appear smoother, so you will look and feel more relaxed and youthful.
A natural look for summer confidence
In the early days, Botox had a reputation for giving people a ‘frozen’ appearance, or a face that looked obviously ‘done.’ However, anti-wrinkle injections are now much more effective at creating a subtly refreshed appearance, and when delivered by a trained aesthetician, the result is a softening of the features rather than an artificial stiffness.
People find that they look as though they’ve had a good night’s sleep, or that they’ve just returned from a three-week holiday. It’s the perfect way to show off sun-kissed skin (even if it’s out of a bottle).
How it works
The full treatment takes just 15-20 minutes to perform, and is carried out using fine needles so most people find the process is relatively painless. There may be some mild swelling at the injection site, but this will usually subside within a couple of days, and side effects are rare. It can take up to two weeks for the full results to become apparent.
After the treatment, you should avoid touching or massaging the injected areas for 48 hours to ensure that the Botox does not migrate to another part of your face. You should also avoid alcohol-based skin products and vigorous exercise for 48 hours. The effects of Botox typically last for three to four months, but they can last up to six months in some people.
If you want to have your face looking fabulous in time for a holiday or big summer event, ideally you should book your appointment about three weeks in advance. This will give time for the treatment to settle, and to have any tweaks if they are needed.
Anti-wrinkle injections are all about helping you feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin rather than a drastic makeover.
They can also be used as a preventative skin care measure if you’re in your twenties or thirties, because they reduce skin creasing and therefore it takes much longer for permanent lines caused by dynamic facial movements such as smiling, frowning and squinting to settle in.
